Term One Week 5

Shortened Days for remainder of Term 1

As the number of COVID cases across the school community continues to grow, we have made the decision to shorten the length of the school day. This will provide extra planning and preparation time for staff working with students whilst they are isolating at home.  Starting next week, the school day will now end at 2.30pm.  The Flaxmere and Havelock North buses will run earlier. The Waipāwa Bus will leave as early as possible but it will be closer to 3.00pm.  If you have any questions about the buses please contact ge@hastingsgirls.com

Students Signing Out of School During the School Day

If students have an appointment and need to leave school during the day, they must let their teacher know at the start of the day.  The school will then confirm this with caregivers, so the request can be approved and students released from class at the appropriate time.  Students cannot leave the school grounds without permissions, this is important for everyone’s safety.

Office Hours

In line with our shortened school day, our school office will now be closing each day at 3.30pm.

House Poster Challenge

We have our first opportunity to gain house points. Ahnaliyah, our Community Liaison Captain is setting all students the challenge to create a poster promoting positive mental health awareness. This is an opportunity students both on site and at home to get creative, and choose whether to do a poster by hand or digitally. Once students have made their poster email it to maaahn@hastingsgirls.com along with their year level and house. Email entries between 7-27 March to gain house points. The top 3 junior and senior entries will gain extra house points. If students have any questions feel free to contact Ahnaliyah.

Year 11 Physical Education Camp

Unfortunately we have had to postpone our scheduled day trips out to Waimārama Beach next week. This is due to low numbers at school and issues surrounding COVID. It would mean alot of students in these two classes would miss out on this experience. We will schedule an alternative outdoor activity sometime during the year, so students can still achieve the two achievement standards they started.

2022 Strategic Plan

Our strategic plan creates the map of our strategic direction for the year.  The plan is built in conjunction with the  Board of Trustees and it helps inform our decision making.  Our plan also helps us shape our professional teaching / leadership goals.  We have three goals under the general theme of learning, pastoral and curriculum.

School Sport Vaccination Mandate Update

On Friday 25th February, Minister Hipkins announced vaccine passes for school related activities would no longer be necessary. The Ministry of Education announced further detail in relation to this on March 1st:

“As indicated by Minister Hipkins, all children and young people will soon be able to participate in all school-organised teams and groups regardless of their vaccination status.  An amendment to the Health Order will now be needed and we anticipate these changes will take effect no later than Tuesday 15 March.  This will apply to onsite and offsite activities for both curriculum-related (including offsite education outside the classroom) and extra-curricular activities offered by a registered school.  This change will apply to intra-school and inter-school competitions/ activities as well as competitions/ activities where school teams/ groups compete against other teams/ groups which are not from a school. For example, the school’s First XI competing in a local senior club competition or the school kapa haka group competing against adult groups in a regional competition.  We will advise you when these changes to the Health Order occur and will update our website information to reflect the above information and advice at that time.  For now, the existing requirements/permissions under the Health Order remain in place.
