Year 10
Kia ora e hoa ma.
My name is Zyggy Kireka-Russell, I have been a student here at Hastings Girls’ High School for two years now and I have enjoyed every moment of being here.
Hastings Girls’ High School has offered me so many opportunities, such as grander involvement in sports, cultural and academic events. The curriculum of this kura is formed so that it fits the needs of the students in a respectable way and the school’s top priority is for us as students is to strive for excellence in a happy manner. Over the years that I’ve been here, I have been involved with multiple sports and academic extra-curriculars that have enhanced my strengths as an individual and have given me many chances for higher performance in sports.
Hastings Girls’ embraces whanaungatanga and manaakitanga immensely. The beautiful and warming environment here changes my mindset on a daily basis to a positive and productive head-space ready to learn and exceed the expectations. One of the many highlights of my journey here so far has to be taking upon the challenge of doing an entire NCEA Level 1 course as Year 10; these types of opportunities are offered here at Hastings Girls’ to challenge and push the girls who are capable and to go beyond the limits. Coming from a small all-girls māori school in Greenmeadows, Napier it was a huge awakening walking into a much larger school with much more students, but the change was for the better.
In my opinion, Hastings Girls’ High School is the best school for girls in Hawke’s Bay as it caters for overall excellence in ALL areas and continues to do so.
