Kate Allen, Kathleen Steffert, Pelerose Vaima’a and myself have all been selected to be apart of the 2019 Hastings Youth Council.
Hastings Youth Council consists of a small group of 15 pupils aged 15-18 who live in the Hastings area. We all come from different schools across Hawkes Bay. We meet on the first Wednesday of every month.
I chose to apply to be on the youth council as I wanted to voice my opinions and thoughts but also be somebody for our youth to come to, to voice their views and ideas. I want to bring light to topics that aren't necessarily talked about or voiced.
All 15 of us have different passions and ideas and we all bring something new and refreshing to share. I love being able to put my input in and try to make Hastings a better place for the youth of our community.
Hastings Youth council is set up to let the youth of Hastings know that they have a voice and are heard. They are entitled to their own opinion and it doesn't matter what age, gender or race you are. We are planning fun and substantial events for the youth of Hastings which will pop up throughout the year.
We have a facebook page where we are very active and let the youth of our community know what is going on and exciting things that are coming up.
Hastings Youth Council is a great opportunity and I am looking forward to being involved and planning exciting upcoming events for our youth!
