Term Four Week 3

Message from the Principal

Tēnā koutou katoa

As we enter November, we’ve been gifted with beautiful weather, and it’s been wonderful to see our students making the most of it during lunchtimes and breaks. The energy and laughter filling our outdoor spaces reflect the vibrant life of our school.

This week has been particularly significant for our Year 13 students, marking a series of “lasts” as they experience their final days here at Hastings Girls’ High School. Yesterday, we honoured them with a special Leavers’ Breakfast where each student was presented with a personal statement crafted by their House Dean. These messages highlighted the unique contributions each student has made to our school community, acknowledging the impact they’ve had over their years with us. It was a heartfelt morning, made even brighter by the presentation of flowers to each leaver—a colorful reminder of the paths they’ve travelled and the journeys that lie ahead.

Our Senior Academic Prize-giving was another pinnacle event this week, gathering together students, staff, and whānau to celebrate the outstanding accomplishments of our seniors. This occasion is always a highlight of the year, showcasing the commitment, perseverance, and ambition that our students bring to their studies. We are especially proud to congratulate Julie Luong, our 2024 Dux. Julie exemplifies our core values, and her remarkable achievements are a testament to her dedication and the legacy she leaves behind for others to follow. Having so many whānau in attendance to support and celebrate these milestones underscores the strength of our community—our students are fortunate to be surrounded by such encouragement and care.

In addition to these significant events, today we also celebrated Diwali. Our school came alive with the colours, sounds, and flavours of this beautiful festival, as students and staff enjoyed festive food samples, music, and activities during lunchtime. Diwali reminds us of the importance of light, joy and renewal—values that resonate strongly within our school community.

As we move toward the end of the term, let’s continue to embrace these special moments together. Our seniors prepare for their final exams, and we encourage them to make the most of the time remaining to consolidate their learning and focus on achieving their best.

Senior Exam Tutorials

We encourage students to make the most of our study tutorials ahead of their exams. When students are coming to school, they must come in full school uniform and sign in and out at the Student Centre.

An email will be sent home later today to students and whānau with the tutorial timetable.
