Term Three Week 6
Reminder about School Uniform
We appreciate everyone's efforts to make sure students are wearing the correct uniform. Unfortunately, they are still choosing to wear incorrect footwear. As a reminder, students are expected to wear roman sandals or black school shoes and school socks. Our uniform looks amazing when it is worn well. Thank you for your continued support.
Learning Conversations and Senior Whānau Student Learning Conferences
Over the last couple of weeks senior students have been participating in learning conversations with their Ākina Coaches. The purpose of these is to ensure that students are meeting their learning goals and NCEA targets and creating an academic plan for the rest of the year. These learning conversations have been recorded and are being emailed home on Friday 25 August. We will be holding learning conferences to give whānau the opportunity to come and discuss their students progress with their Ākina Coach on Thursday 7 September. More information will be coming next week on booking a time to meet with Ākina Coaches.
Winners of the Open Evening School Blazer Competition
We wish to congratulate Kaleb Wishnowsky, Hastings Intermediate and Bria MacDonald, Twyford School. Both students were drawn from entries filled out at our recent Open Evening. We look forward to seeing them along with all our Year 9 students in 2024.

Congratulations to the Ākina Netball Team
A big congratulations to the Ākina Netball team for making the final of the Division B Super Secondary Netball Tournament on Tuesday against Karamu High School Senior A. Although it didn't go our way the players put on a solid performance. The team has progressed extremely well this year and we would like to extend our gratitude to our Coaches, Kori Waerea and Kyra Collier. The players are a mix of Year 9s and 10s and were playing against mostly senior school students so their efforts during the competition have been awesome for the development of Netball at HGHS. We would also like to thank our supporters that came along to watch us during the season, as well as Stuart and the team at Classic Kitchens, Napier for sponsoring us with our long sleeve warm up T-shirts. Well done team on a great season; it's been a blast!
Menu - Week of 28 August
The Studio Hub Visit to Live Aubyn Theatre
On Tuesday, The Studio Hub went to Live Aubyn Theatre where Lesley shared their kaupapa of a community and family theatre. Students had the opportunity to look backstage at their current show of The Jungle Book and look at the props with the highlight being trying on costumes. This then grew into several improvised wedding scenes. Students and staff had a great time and we look forward to continuing this relationship with our local am-dram theatre.
