Term Three Week 3
Senior Learning Conversations
During Weeks 4 and 5 senior students will be having learning conversations with their Ākina Coach. These conversations will be about how students are progressing towards their learning goals for the year and making a plan to ensure they achieve these goals. It is important for students to engage and be honest about their progress in these conversations. These conversations will be noted and emailed to whānau at the end of week 5.
Benchmark Examinations
Students should now be preparing for their Benchmark examinations in Week 6 from 21-25 August. All students will be required to come to school each day, where they will be in supervised study classes when they are not writing exams. Attendance each day is vital! The proposed examination timetable will come out next week, as well as a form allowing students to nominate their preferred study area.
Why is regular attendance to school so important?
Attendance is linked to both student wellbeing and academic success. Student wellbeing is a key priority for us. One of the biggest causes of student anxiety and lack of feeling like they belong is due to the amount of time skipping school. As their classmates continue to learn and grow, they fall further behind which spirals into more and more time off school, avoiding the hole they are digging for themselves. If you feel this could be the reason for your daughter's continued low attendance, please meet with one of our amazing Deans who will help come up with a tailored plan on how to catch up and regain control of their potential.
Aigamua
Thank you Aigamua for visiting our Pasifika Students last week.
Aigamua are a Pasifika charitable trust that focuses on educating and supporting and raising awareness for our people. Our mission is to champion mental health and empower aiga to achieve holistic wellbeing. We strive to create a safe space where mental health matters. “A place where voices are heard, stories are told and lives are changed”.
Level 2 PE Camp
Last week we travelled to Taupō for a three night camp. The activities we completed were mountain biking, an off road walk to Huka Falls, a hot swim, and a high ropes course at Rock 'n Ropes. The purpose of the camp was to look at risks in the outdoors and look at risk management strategies to minimise the risks involved. We had an absolute blast and the girls were an amazing bunch to take away.
Winter Tournament Week
Around Aotearoa this year's Secondary School Winter Tournament Week kicks off 27 August. WTW represents the high point of the season for our Premier Netball, Rugby and Basketball teams. Sports is an opportunity to develop fully rounded rangatahi with imbued mindfulness and resilience of mana, identity, and connection to each other. Most importantly we are grateful for our whānau support as we couldn't do it without you.
