Students need to take six subjects at this level of which courses in English, Mathematics and Science are compulsory. Subject teachers and Deans will advise students on the best course of study for their individual needs. Students will choose three other subjects in addition to the three compulsory subjects.
It is important to choose subjects carefully since some subjects at Year 12 and Year 13 have requirements from a previous level.
Choosing the subjects that make up a course of study is a very significant decision for students. With the Qualifications Framework in place, students need to ensure their individual courses best suit their particular abilities, interests and learning needs.
The ideal course of study will:
- contain subjects that interest the student
- allow every opportunity to gain qualifications
- allow for a smooth progression through each school level and then into areas of tertiary study
- allow for a variety of career paths
Students unsure of the most appropriate pathway for them should be discussing their possible choices with their teachers. Dean or the school's Careers Adviser before making their final selection.
