Hastings Girls' High School was opened officially on 24 March 1956, with Miss C M M Miller as Principal and Miss Trotter as First Assistant Principal.

The school swimming pool was officially opened in 1960 and the following year our assembly hall became a reality.  Mr Fuller, the art teacher, painted the mural that represents famous women through the ages.  It can still be viewed today on the back of the school assembly hall.  Another major addition to the school was the Gymnasium in October 1967.
