Term One Week 5

Senior Effort Reports

On Friday 8 March the Term 1 Senior Effort Reports will be emailed out to whānau/caregivers. This will give an indication of how engaged students have been in their learning at the start of the year.

Senior Engagement Evening

On Thursday 14 March we will be holding our Senior Engagement Evening in the School Hall from 4-6pm. This is an opportunity for whānau/caregivers of senior students to come and meet your students' teachers. There will also be information on NCEA, how it works and the changes that have been made to NCEA in 2024. We will not be making appointments for this evening so please come along when it suits you.

2024 Late Process

Please read our new process and ensure that students are arriving on time to school ready to learn.

Expressions of interest

We are asking for expressions of interest from students who want to participate in one, two or all three of the below events. By expressing interest it does not mean that you have to be involved. We will use these responses to decide which (if any) of the events we will enter as a school. If you express interest in an event which does go ahead, then we will contact you later when we will start planning and practicing.

HGHS Gateway Programme

The Gateway Programme is an opportunity for senior students to explore potential pathways and start their career training while still at school.

Neva, Maddie and Vanessa are all keen to pursue a career in farming and this week started their Agriculture course with Turanga Ararau. Every Tuesday they go out to Longacre Farm in Tukituki to work on the farm and will build up their skills throughout the year. The Tutor, Greg, reported that two of our past students, Asher and Tequila, are both now working full-time on farms as a result of this course.

Sports Wrap Up

1. Netball Trials Extended
We've had an overwhelming response to Netball trials this year and have added another date for Junior Trials.

Meanwhile this Monday our Senior Prems will hold their final trial. We are now aiming to have final teams selected by Friday 15 March.

2. Monthly Sports Wrap
As a kura we need you to be our eyes and ears to let us know about the achievements of our kōhine in the community. With many representing Māori and Pasifika teams, as well as reps across Aotearoa, we are calling out for your stories for a monthly sports wrap.

Our plan is to share some of your wider achievements in sport and choose a student to interview and spotlight for the month.
